Recognized Credentials
In Smurfit-MBI's modern research laboratories, highly skilled and experienced staff operate a wide range of sophisticated test equipment under controlled environmental conditions, according to industry approved procedures.

Smurfit-MBI is one of only three corrugated companies in Canada to conduct ISTA (International Safe Transit Association) and "Sears" pre-shipment tests.

Smurfit-MBI facilities are approved by Transport Canada to conduct compliance testing on dangerous goods packaging.

The Canadian General Standards Board has selected Smurfit-MBI Research & Technical Services to represent the corrugated industry in the development of packaging standards including, notably, implementation of the "United Nations Recommendations for the Packaging of Dangerous Goods".

Smurfit-MBI participates actively in national and international industry technical associations including TAPPI, CPPA, ASTM and the Standards Council Canada.

ISTA Certification
ISTA certification is essential to protection against liability arising from in-transit damage caused by shipper mishap. Many major buyers demand proof of ISTA compliance before granting Authorized Supplier status.

Sears Protective Packaging Program
Smurfit-MBI research laboratories are authorized to issue Certificates of Compliance to Sears packaging standards. This is a compulsory requirement for all suppliers of furniture to Sears.

Customer Designed Pre-shipment Tests
Test procedures can be custom designed to meet specific needs. Procedures can be based on the ASTM Performance Testing of Shipping Containers and Systems, taking into consideration the actual shipping environment.

Dangerous Goods Compliance
